Hearing loss

After sight, hearing is the most important sense that connects us to our environment. We use hearing to orient ourselves in space, receive information from the environment and communicate with others, but we also use it to enjoy music, pleasant sounds, the voices of our loved ones…

Between 400,000 and 600,000 people in Croatia suffer from some type of hearing impairment. Hearing loss is a problem that patients often don’t even notice on their own, and a lot of people, even once they are conscious of the problem, refuse to deal with it, and often hide it from their environment.

Bontech is dedicated to giving people suffering from hearing loss the access to the most advanced hearing aids that will either give them back their hearing, or protect it from further damage.

Types of hearing loss

The loss of hearing is often a gradual and even inconspicuous process that people can experience for a long time without noticing. Causes that lead to hearing loss are numerous: long-term exposure to loud noise, frequent and severe ear infections, eardrum rupture, age-related hearing loss, long-term medical therapy, perinatal hearing damage…

Depending on the cause of hearing loss or deafness, we can distinguish between conductive, sensorineural and mixed hearing loss.

Conductive hearing loss is caused by damage to the outer or middle ear, which impedes the sound waves from entering the inner ear. It is most often caused by an infection, an injury to the middle ear, an anomaly of the hearing bones in the middle ear, or changes to the inner year, but there are other causes as well.

Sensorineural hearing loss is a disorder in the perception of the intensity and frequency of sound, caused by damage to the cochlea, the auditory nerve, or the auditory centers in the brain. This type of hearing loss can be innate, but when it appears later in life, it is often caused by an injury, disease or long-term exposure to noise. When appearing as a symptom in older age, it is progressive perceptive hearing loss. Over 80% of Bontech’s hearing aid users are over 60 years old.

Mixed hearing lossis, as the name indicates, a mix of conducive and sensorineural hearing loss, most often caused by an infection moving from the middle to the inner ear.

Hearing test free of charge

If the answer to any of the questions is yes, it is time for a hearing test. An audiometric test is a simple hearing test using headphones to check your hearing. It is painless and short (about five minutes long), and it is done in so-called quiet (sound proof) chambers. Our experts do audiometric tests in 30 stores around Croatia. Audiometric tests are free at Bontech, and each user gets a valuable gift to go along with them.

Don’t become a statistic by waiting 5 to 8 years to confirm that you really are experiencing hearing loss, because in that time your hearing will deteriorate irreparably. Whoever gets the courage to get tested will not regret it: 90% of hearing aid users claim that they have significantly improved their quality of life.

You can get your hearing checked at any of Bontech's 30 retail stores.
